Black & white, Scandinavian-inspired or monochrome. It really doesn’t matter what you call this look, one thing is for sure: I have been smitten with this look for months now. So when the idea of a monochrome styled Christmas shoot recently came to life (with my friend, Kari from Lovilee), I couldn’t contain my excitement! We had such fun putting this together & I am over the moon to share our inspiration with you today. You’ll see that we added some golden & African touches too. I’ll also let you in on some tips & tricks on how to create this look. Enjoy!

A MONOCHROME TREE

You can dress up a green tree in white & gold, but we LOVE the white tree with minimalist black & off-white baubles & fabulous flying golden animals (from GONK in Linden).

BLACK & WHITE GIFT WRAP IDEAS

Use plain white or black gift wrap & jazz it up with golden ribbon. Or look out for monochrome Christmas wrapping (like the ones I used here from Woolworths & Pick ‘n Pay) to give your gifts the perfect monochrome treatment. Or pop gifts into a fabric Gift Stash Bag (like these ones from lovilee).

THE TABLE

I love to keep my Christmas tables rather minimalist – playing around with the white, black & golden items in my cupboard. A minimalist golden tree, candles & white pine cones work well well with this look. Don’t forget to add hand-made Christmas Crackers for a really special touch.

To tie in with the lovely flying animals from GONK, I sprayed some plastic animals in gold.

THE MENU

It is easy to introduce monochromatic items into your menu; add blackberries to your water or ice cubes, pour some golden bubbly for your guests & serve my delicious Smoked Salmon bites on charcoal crackers. A good idea is also to plate all your food on white & black platters & introduce mirrors as platters for a wow factor!

Play around with white meringues, edible glitter or gold food spray to make desserts look instantly festive.

I’d love to hear from you: what are your Christmas colours this year? Do you love this look? Are you keen to also have a (Black &) White Christmas this year?

Treat yourself & check out Kari’s post for a different black & white setting.
