Over the past few years, dry shampoo has become one of my beauty staples. It’s certainly a must have if you have a baby!
My criteria for a good dry shampoo? It must get rid of the oil, but without excessive flakiness. The dandruff-look is out! Any other benefits are a bonus. These were the ones on trial:
Initially I was very impressed with the Kérastase Powder Bluff Dry Shampoo. It does a good job as a dry shampoo, smells great & doubles up as a volumising hair spray. Being a huge Kérastase fan, this is hard for me to say… but after using it for a few weeks, I can honestly say that it’s not entirely worth R320 (200ml at selected hair salons).
I grabbed the Freshen Up Dry Hair Shampoo (R19.95 for 60ml at Dis-Chem) purely because of its travel friendly size. It’s a bit powdery for my liking, but it’s a good fragrance free hand bag size alternative to the 50ml from Batiste which I don’t always find at all Clicks stores.
Beauty Formulas Dry Shampoo (R29,95 for 150ml, Dis-Chem). My first impression: why the uninspiring packaging? Turns out this ugly duckling is a winner – at such an affordable price. It will definitely make it into my shopping cart again!
The Lee Stafford Dry Shampoo (R95, exclusive to Clicks) doesn’t get a very good score from me. Unfortunately – even after very vigorous rubbing, I still felt lots of powder. Eek!
Batiste dry shampoo comes in a 200ml can (R64.00 for the core range & R74.99 for the Medium, Dark & Volume options) & in a handbag sized 50ml (R36.99 in original, tropical & blush). If you love variety & playing around with scents, then look no further. My preference? The clean & classic Original.
And if you prefer to keep the chemicals off your head? Well, then the lovely girls at A Beautiful Mess have tips & tricks on natural options for dry shampooing. Check it out: Dry Shampoo 101.
