I had lots of fun with the décor in our first grown-up home, Something that I always keep in mind when decorating our home is to consider the rest of our household. Naturally, a home needs to be practical & a happy space for all those living in it. In our home, for instance, I doubt that a pink kitchen (which I think is the prettiest ever!) or a super gorgeous, but probably way too colourful home will be a big hit with my left-brain other half.
The one room where I could literally do whatever my heart desired, was my little home office in our George home. I was so excited to put together my own monochrome & gold feminine office space & here is how it all came together:
BEFORE:
Like with the rest of the home, the ‘before’ was neat, but not my style at all.
Getting my girly workspace together was a bit of a process, but I love the way it came together in the end. Honestly, I miss a dedicated office space, because now that we’re back in Jozi, I huddle around the dining room table. My products, books & papers are sometimes a bit much for the household. To date, they have actually been very patient with ‘my dining room office’.
MY INSPIRATION:
As with most of the house, I had hours (maybe even days) of fun on Pinterest, finding images of girly workspaces, so here is a bit of my inspiration for my black, white & gold home office – what’s not to love?
THE PROCESS:
As you can see from the before image above: when we moved in, the study/home office was a boring beigy colour, so firstly the entire room was painted white.
I’m such a fan of wallpaper & would have loved to add wallpaper to one or more of the walls, but I went for painted black stripes in the end. Much cheaper & easier to do.
The doors of the cupboard & the drawers were yellowish & the knobs were outdated, so I had these sprayed & replaced the original knobs with something a bit more girly & glamorous.
I covered my files with black, white & gold paper & added some gold bits & bobs. A fresh flower or two also added softness to the room.
Unfortunately, I don’t have a pic of our the bookshelf, but I wanted to mention that we also managed to colour code our books & keep it semi-neat & styled most of the time.
AFTER:
I feel so blessed to have had such a gorgeous space – with a window that looked out onto the garden – to work in.
I loved so many things about this office; the view of the garden, my little golden vase & tea cup; the gold decals; my inspiration images & “Hello Sunshine” framed print.
Thank you for joining me for this trip down memory lane. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I have.

Love the transformation! There is something about stripes in a room, that just brings it to live!
Thank you so much Alet. xxx
I absolutely LOVE this! Those black and white stripes are definitely going to happen in my next house 🙂
Simply gorgeous Yolandi. The black, white and gold makes it look so classy. I could be super creative in a office space like that
Thank you Michelle. I loved that space.
I also headed over to your blog & absolutely love it!
