Easter is such a beautiful time of year. Around the world, a new season – spring or autumn – is arriving & with it the hope for new things. This year, we can all do with a reminder of the hope that Jesus brings.
For us here in South Africa, Easter time marks the start of Autumn. The chill can already be felt in the air.
As I was thinking about Easter this year, I realized once more that we should put much more effort into Easter & make it as memorable as possible. It is after all the most significant time on our Christian calendar.
Instead of something pastel with chicks & tulips, I wanted something different & I asked myself if understated can stand in the same sentence as memorable & luxe? It certainly can.
Since we are in Africa, I have decided to keep my Easter inspiration very minimal with some African elements.
The surroundings & lodge (Witklipfontein, Parys) where we did the shoot were just so magnificent that I didn’t want to detract from the beautiful space. Enter the simplistic look. The gold cutlery & candle holders add some sophistication to the table, while the texture of the table, placemats & surrounds work really well together.
Some prominent themes in the decor & styling world at the moment are working with what you have, foraging & inviting nature inside. That is why the Witklipfontein setting is so magical – even when you are sitting inside the house, it feels like you are in the veld.
Candles always make for a really dreamy setting – especially if your guests are coming over at night. For a day-time meal, you can still use candlesticks & light candles, but for this table, I have decided to simply use the magnificent Adele Catherine candle holders for their simplicity & their height. You can also create a similar look by spray painting old candle holders or glass bottles.
Wreaths are not traditionally associated with Easter, but after I looked into the meaning of the wreath again (eternal life & what Jesus represents for us), I felt that a wreath was quite appropriate.
I made this very simple Easter Wreath by using an embroidery hoop, some feathers, polystyrene eggs & wooden sticks. Everything was combined & attached to the hoop with a hot glue gun. (If you are going to try this, be sure not to put hot glue directly on the styrofoam eggs as they will melt). You can also add some greenery to this design.
The basket with eggs adds a subtle Easter touch. It contains real fresh farm eggs, styrofoam eggs & chocolate eggs along with a few odd feathers.
Items I used on the table: Grass Place mats // Mr Price Home, Gold Nicolson Russell Gold Cutlery // Yuppiechef, Black basket & Black plates // Woolworths, Aureum Leopard Napkins // Wanderland Collective, Glasses & Carafe // Mr Price Home, Brass Candle Holder Set // Adele Catherine , Styrofoam eggs // Her-Annies Craft Shop
How about you? Do you do a pastel Easter look & feel or do you have something different in mind for your Easter table this year?
Wishing you all a blessed Easter week. Thank you for visiting.
