For me, having good hair days start with a good cut & salon colour plus salon quality products to maintain my look at home. These products might be more costly than their mass market retail store counterparts but I really believe they are superior & great value for money. The highly concentrated formula always goes further making it last longer.
I have been trying these 3 shampoos & conditioners lately & they are all great!
Inoar Vegan Range [For All Hair Types]
When I hear something about vegan beauty, I immediately think of hippies & a very specific roll-on that I had to test once. It had the strongest rosemary stench. Nothing about that product was appealing. Ugg.
Luckily the new Vegan Range by Brazilian haircare brand, Inoar, is nothing like that. Sure it is environmentally friendly, vegan & cruelty-free, but it is still a salon quality product.
The brand ‘s foundation of respect for individuals, animals & the environment is used to guide all product development, meaning that it contains only vegetable-based ingredients like Coconut Oil, Olive Oil, Macadamia Oil & Argan Oil. It penetrates deep into the hair fibres & promotes growth. My hair feels great right after washing, but sadly this product leaves my hair a bit greasy after just one day, whereas I can usually go for two or even more days without washing when I use one of the products below.
There is no specific mention that it protects colour, but it contains not harsh chemicals so I doubt that it will ruin my colour.
What I like: All products undergo tests, but never on animals. Inoar only uses vegetable-based ingredients in their formulations & has been included in PETA’s list of cruelty-free companies. And the smell is delightful. Even my seriously blocked winter nose can smell the delicious coconut.
Price: Inoar Vegan Shampoo (R320 for 300ml); Inoar Vegan Conditioner (R320 for 300ml); Inoar Vegan Treatment Mask (R575 for 500g). Buy over here.
Davines Naturaltech Well-Being Range [For All Hair Types]
This is not a new range. In fact, it has been an award-winning aroma-therapeutic shampoo for a while & named Winner of InStyle’s Best Beauty Buys in 2014 already. It remains a great lightweight go-to range for me.
Initially, I was not convinced about the product because it doesn’t mention that it is formulated for colour treated hair however, my stylist confirmed that it locks in colour & he is the master, so I bought it.
Davines is all about individuality, harmony & gentleness which sounds a bit airy fairy but essentially this means the product is about sustainable beauty & promotes overall well-being.
What I like: Davines is not tested on animals. It also doesn’t contain any parabens or sulphates.
Price: Davines Naturaltech Well-Being Shampoo (R255 for 250ml) & Conditioner (R270 for 150ml). Available at Carlton Hair salons nationwide & other selected stockists. Davines always has great promotions, so check out the Facebook Page to keep up-to-date.
Vichy Nourishing Reparative Range [For dry, damaged & brittle hair]
The Vichy Nourishing Reparative Range stands out most for me as it leaves my hair looking cleaner & bouncier for longer than the other two products. It has been formulated to specifically nourish & reinforce hair fibres of coloured & chemically treated hair, so it is spot on for me.
What I like: I love how it makes my hair feel – really full of volume. It contains zero parabens, no silicone & is a hypoallergenic formula. Vichy products are also tested under dermatological control (but not on animals)!
Price: Nourishing & Reparative Cream Shampoo (R199); Nourishing & Reparative Conditioner (R225); Nourishing & Reparative Rich Mask (R320). Buy over here.
The Vichy DERCOS Range also includes an Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (for oily or dry hair); the Ultra-Soothing Range for normal to oily hair or very dry hair; & the Vichy Dercos Oil Control Treatment Shampoo.
Finally, three things to remember about washing & conditioning your hair:
- Shampoo is for roots, conditioner for tips. Applying conditioner to your roots might leave them feeling oily.
- When you wash your hair, give your head an invigorating massage to improve blood circulation & detoxify your scalp.
- If you have rinsed your hair for a while, rinse a bit longer so that you can get rid of all product.
Have you tried any of these products? Have a gorgeous hair day.

or a leave in conditioner – so we don’t have to rinse even longer? Our dams are emptying fast!
Absolutely Diana. I actually thought about the drought when I was typing this. I specifically tested the conditioners, so these are general pointers, but I cannot agree more. I am also a huge fan of dry shampoos to make hair appear cleaner for longer. We need to do everything we can so save our precious water. We can only hope & pray that our Father will soon send enough rain so that this would come to an end. Thanx for reading & for your comment. x
