If you’re a regular around here, then you’ll know how much I love a party & a yummy piece of cake, so I’m super excited to say Hip Hip Hooray & Happy 25th South African Birthday to Dermalogica. Bring on the cake! 🙂
On a slightly more serious note though: Dermalogica has always been on my radar, but it was only about two years ago that I really started to make changes to my skincare routine. I switched to Dermalogica completely – a necessity because my 35+ year old, hormonal skin was simply not as happy as it used to be before. Fast forward & Dermalogica is now my trusted go-to range. (Below are some of my favourite products. Also read more about the Calm Water Gel over here.)
And just in case you don’t know what makes this brand so awesome… Here are my 6 reasons to fall in love with Dermalogica:
They’re Big on Education
In 2018 alone, over 10 000 (!) therapists & students were trained through Dermalogica South Africa on things like business acumen, products & treatment protocol etc. When you visit one of their salons or concept spaces, you will immediately notice how knowledgeable & passionate the therapists are.
In fact, the very reason why Dermalogica started back in the 80’s was that Jane Wurwand, the founder, realised that there was a lack of education & training in the professional salon industry. “Identify the greatest pain in an industry & you have also identified the greatest opportunity,” said Jane. So, in 1986 Dermalogica launched with 27 core products to skincare professionals only & is a ginormous global brand today.
True Concern for Skin Health
These guys don’t include any common skin irritants, like SD alcohol, lanolin, mineral oil, artificial colourants & fragrances in the range. All products are cruelty-free & the majority are vegan-friendly too. Currently only 4 products contain animal derivatives, such as silk amino acids, however, they are set on providing a total vegan offering in the near future.
Kind to the Environment
From inception, Dermalogica’s product formulations were developed with integrity to have unsurpassed efficacy & safety, says Teresa Mordoh, CEO of Dermalogica in South Africa. “[Jane’s] relentless commitment to the quality demanded that all products were ‘clean from conception’ in 1985; way before clean was just another trend!”
It’s taken further strives in the fight for eco-consciousness by phasing out parabens & constantly exploring ways to reduce packaging waste.
Personalization
The Dermalogica experience starts with a personalized skin analysis called FacemappingTM which is a free service where consultants will recommend your very own skincare prescription. These mapping are currently available in 16 Dermalogica Concept Stores nationwide of which the Canal Walk Store was the latest to open in July 2019. What I love is that they often have samples of recommended products that you can try out before making your purchase decision. With over 120 products currently in the range & constant new innovations launching, Dermalogica really has something for each & every skin care need.
Human Touch
Apart from the personalised care & attention that every client receives, Dermalogica invests in the professional skincare industry, individual female business owners & therapists. The FITE (Financial Independence Through Education) program specifically invests in the potential of girls & women through the creation of pathways to entrepreneurship. Through economic assistance & educations, a network of over 420 stockists has been built in South Africa.
Today, Dermalogica is sold in more than 80 countries worldwide & products are available from select skin treatment centers, concept spaces, Sorbet Salons & online at dermalogica.co.za.
Thank you for visiting.
