Our room (more specifically our bed) is one of my favourite spaces in our home! It is sunny & comfortable & absolutely perfect for naps. And I loooove a nap.

But recently I felt a bit uninspired with the room. Living in a rented space has lots of pro’s, but it can easily feel like your stuff was merely plonked down as a temporary measure. Not great. So, when an area of our home starts to weigh me down, I reckon that it is time for a quick refresh.

In 2016 I posted about our (then) room makeover. It was the first time that I had properly decorated our room & the result was lovely.

I somehow managed to delete the ‘before’ image of our current room, but the one on the left will give you an idea of what our room looked like in our previous home.

For this specific budget & renter-friendly refresh, I followed the following three steps:

STEP 1: Paint A Featured Wall

A coat (or block or frame) of paint can give a room a brand new feel. So when I saw Plascon’s Nutmeg Dust, I fell in love! It was perfect.

I gave the wall behind the bed a coat of Nutmeg Dust & when Ernie got home we had a brand new dusty pink wall! Haha.

STEP 2: Add New Scatter Cushions

Updating scatter cushions is by far one of the easiest ways to change a look & introduce a new colour scheme. These scatters here are from Woolworths & I think they work just perfectly!

STEP 3: Move Some Items Around & Play Around With What You Have

Our bed, grey linen, headboard & pedestals remained. Our headboard was mounted in our previous home though, but at the moment it is just loose behind the bed which makes it look shorter & gives it a different feel. I even considered taking the headboard away completely to show off more of the fabulous wall. Might still do it.

I also moved our bean bag downstairs, brought my favourite occasional chair into the room & popped a new scatter cushion on it. For our new look I prefer some fresh flowers next to the bed, but I suppose the bed lamp is practical so it had to come back. I do think that some bedlamps & other elements in copper, gold or rose gold will add something special to the room.

I am so chuffed with how this mini room makeover turned out. The room feels different & slightly more contemporary. And this entire refresh only cost me about R1000!

Do you have any tips on giving a room or corner a quick refresh?

Thank you for visiting. Stay a bit longer & check out some more of my before & afters over here & here.
