I am over the moon about this post, because it is something that I have wanted to do for a long time now.
I know so many women with really beautiful homes – happy homes with personal artefacts & style & each tell a story. So today I’m featuring the very first home (of hopefully many). It belongs to Simone Konyn. She shares this lovely Parkhurst (Jozi) home with husband Jon, little Luke (2) & their dog Thuli. Technically, it no longer belongs to them as they moved recently, so this post is more of a trip down memory lane.
Please come along for a peek inside this lovely home….
The space is classy & beautifully put together, but unpretentious & always inviting. Simone describes the style as “natural & earthy but with a few modern elements in each room. I love the intimacy of this house. I think some of that will be lost in a bigger house.”
“My very favourite décor items are my Nguni skin carpet & my Nguni painting – both in the lounge. This is also where we spend the most time. It’s comfortable & offers entertainment for everyone in the family – TV, toys, book & access to the garden.”
“Our bedroom is my favourite space in our home,” she says. “I love how bright & sunny it is most of the day & I love the view of the garden from my bed.”
The couple shares a passion for the bush & many of the décor items in their home is a testimony to that. One such an item is a photo that she cherishes. “The photo is of myself and an elephant kissing my husband on each cheek. It was taken when we lived and worked in the Okavanga Delta in Botswana. We were newly married and it was a very exciting and special adventure in our lives.”
“Bringing my son home after he was born is definitely my best memory of this house.”
When walking through the house, you’ll notice little bunny ornaments in the garden & the home. Simone explains: “Our surname is Konyn which translates to Bunny or Rabbit. Ever since our wedding it has been quite a central theme in our home. We have also inherited two brass Bunnies that belonged to Jon’s grandparents which are very special to us… carrying on the Konyn dynasty.”
Thanx so much for sharing your wonderful space with us Simone!
