Young & old, cooks & non-cooks salivate at the mere thought of an on-screen foodie fix like Masterchef…  Yup, foodie shows on the big & small screens are (still) the in thing!

Let’s talk about yummy food moments on the BIG screen only for a moment. When I think about my favourite food & movie memories I immediately think of the extra thick hot chocolate sipped after the wonderful Chocolat; annoying my other half by doing the ‘Julia Child’ accept for days after watching Julie & Julia; & then those scenes in Eat, Pray, Love where Julia Roberts digs into a bowl of spaghetti or pizza as if it’s her very last meal…

Well, my latest favourite in the culinary film department is dramedy, The Hundred-foot Journey. After watching the premiére last week (Thank you Food & Home Entertaining and NuMetro), I’m inspired!

Without giving too much away, I’ll share with you the simple recipe for this one…

Start with one part director (Lasse Hallstrom) & two parts producer (Oprah Winfrey & Steven Spielberg).

Spice things up with one Indian family from Mumbai – led by Papa (played by Om Puri).

Now stir in a classical Michelin starred restaurant, Le Saule Pleureur & the stiff French owner by the name of Madame Mallory (Helen Mirren). To say that Mallory is unimpressed by the Kasam family who opens their family restaurant, Maison Mumbai, only 100 feet away from her pride-&-joy, is an understatement…

Spice things up with two talented young chefs (Hassan Kadam played by Manish Dayal & Marguerite – Charlotte Le Bon).

Add wonderful acting & some romantic under currants, a small pinch of sadness & a drop of xenophobia.

Mix all together & you’re in for a treat! Serve against the picturesque background of the South of France.

Craving some more? Then watch the trailer here.

The Hundred-foot Journey opens to South-African audiences on 22 August, so do yourself a favour & book, but don’t go hungry!

Bon Appétit!

Yolandi ♥
