fun with washi tape {crafts}

Washi tape might be old news to some, as it has been on Pinterest & in craft blogs & magazines for the past couple of years already. But, I still love it!

Here are some interesting bits about washi tape…

• If you call ‘washi tape’ ‘wasabi tape’ by accident (or just for fun), you’re not far off because both wasabi & washi tape originate from Japan.
• It can be as strong as duct tape, it feels like masking tape & is as pretty as ribbon.
• The word Washi comes from wa meaning Japanese and shi which means paper.
• It comes off easily & doesn’t leave sticky bits like duct tape.
• It’s most commonly made using bamboo, hemp, rice & wheat, so it’s reusable & biodegradable.
• Be aware of inferior products made in China (selling at around R20 – R29). These might ruin your project. Rather get the real deal for about R30 – R50.

Now I can finally say that I’ve done some ‘washi taping’ & I loved it. It’s not messy, it’s so easy & gives you fabulous instant results. Such fun!
