Father’s Day is only two sleeps away & considering that there are 1.5 billion dads in the world, it’s great to know that research* shows that modern day dads contribute much more actively as parents than before. It is especially those millennial dads** that are playing such an important part in the upbringing of their kids.

This clip by Hot Wheels shows that modern dads are fun & cool & keen to connect with their kiddos.

So, I think it’s fitting to celebrate father figures or other male hero’s & role models by doing something special or giving a little something to say ‘i love you’.

This year Oliver & I are letting dad out for Father’s Day to play golf with his bestie. Clever, hey? If you are still stuck for gift ideas & you can’t send him off with his best mate, then look no further.

HERE’S MY SHORT LIST OF LAST MINUTE FATHER’S DAY GIFT IDEAS – FOR EVERY BUDGET:

Free (yes, mahala!): A handmade card. Print a picture, paint, draw, stick, copy or write a card. It’s easy & fun & will be treasured. You can find loads of inspiration on Pinterest. I really love these two ideas…

Under R50: A fun / weird / classy luggage tag. Really handy for those globe trotting dads. You should find some at Typo.

Under R80: Lipidol After Shave Oil (R79,95 at Clicks stores nationwide) won’t dry the skin out as it supplements the natural oily layer which means that it helps to eliminate a nasty post-shave rash. It also won’t burn or itch & smells fresh & manly, but not overwhelming.

Under R100: Socks. Socks? Yes socks! I’m not talking same-old-same-old black socks. If you’re going for socks, then make it something quirky like these from FEAT. sock. co. At R95 a pair these are almost collectors items. I found them at PRESENTspace in Cape Town recently. Also look at Wolves Café in Jozi, Mungo & Jemima in Cape Town or find more stockists here.

Under R500: My personal favourite on this list is a super trendy iPhone or Samsung phone cover by Houdt. They’ll make any dad look instantly cool. I love the iPhone 6 Cherrywood Africa (R399) or the 6 Plus Africa (R449) & the Samsung S5 Walnut (R399). Available at all iFix stores, Incredible Connection and most Musicas.

Under R1000: Previously known as Nomad, Crabtree & Evelyn Moroccan Myrrh Cologne (R900 for 100ml) has been renamed & repackaged, but is still the lovely fragrance that it used to be. Myrrh is the gathered ‘tears’ of tree resin which, in antiquity, was so highly prized that its value by weight was equal to gold. What a perfect symbolic gift to show your appreciation. Find a stockist over here.

And if you’re really still stuck for ideas, then go for a voucher for books, coffee, braai goodies or outdoor gear.

Hope you have a father figure that you can give a big (virtual or real) hug to this father’s day. Around here we’re super lucky to have a fantastic daddy & two great grandfathers plus a great grandfather.

Happy father’s day everyone!

Yolandi ♥
