When aZestyLife was invited to visit Valley Lodge & Spa in Magalies, I was rather sad that we not up in the North anymore. But, I asked our dear friends, the Bornmans, to go on our behalf. This is what they had to say:

The invitation to stay overnight at Valley Lodge & Spa in Magalies came at just the right time. Winter 2016 felt especially long & we were ready to leave it behind & enter spring relaxed & pampered.

We left Bryanston at midday on a Friday. The short 65 kilometer drive took just over an hour. At the gate a Zebra welcomed us, helping us to leave the city behind & become aware of our surroundings. Nature beckoned us to walk slowly, breathe deeply & be present.

The standout element of Valley Lodge & Spa is the hospitality & friendliness of the staff. Locations with similar (four) & more stars often lose their soul in stiff-upper-lip-ness.

From the receptionist, to the spa manager, the therapists & waiters – all made us feel comfortable & at home.

The description of the rooms on the website as “country chic meets modern elegance” is honest & a true reflection of what you can expect. Rooms are en-suite with separate showers & private patios.

As much as we liked the room, we headed out to the much anticipated spa for a Friday afternoon of treatments & relaxation. The spa offers an indoor heated mineral pool, Jacuzzi, steam rooms & saunas.

We started the pamper session with pedicures out on the deck, sipping sparkling wine & soaking up the sun.

The atmosphere in the spa is relaxed, without being too quiet. After a short nap on the deck we proceeded to our full body massages. As a couple, we enjoy monthly massages at our local favourite spa, we were thrilled at the friendly & professional therapists – all well trained & skilled.

Dinner was buffet in The Zeederberg restaurant. We enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, with couples looking lovingly into each others’ eyes & reconnecting after relaxing together in the spa.

The first night in unfamiliar surroundings is often restless & with little sleep. The luxurious bed & linen, heavy curtains & soothing nature sounds however lulled us into a deep sleep. We were woken by the sound of birds, ushering us into a new day – & full English breakfast!

We left Valley Lodge & Spa relaxed, reconnected & ready for spring.
