This is not quite a room reveal but rather a walk around our room if you like. Maybe it is a before post? The thing is that I always have a running list of ideas & small changes that I want to do in our room. In the past, I’ve often regretted not taking before or during pics of a room. So, here it is. Our room mini-tour:

We have had many of the items in our room for a very long time. The frames above the bed are from my late granny. I’ve just put mirrors in these frames. The headboard, scatter cushions & lampshades (to go with the Coricraft lamps) were custom-made when we lived in George, but I have moved on – in my head at least – from this style. I’m ready for a more modern headboard / lampshade look.

Other items are pretty new additions; like the beautiful Houtlander bedside tables and the desk which I absolutely love!

In lockdown 2020 we had the saddest bedside tables & an even sadder looking desk table thingy (with one half broken leg, stuck together with sticky tape) in our room. A laptop stand was constructed out of boxes & books. In September 2020 we moved & I decided that if we were to have an office in our room then I need to upgrade & match our bedside tables with the desk.

This desk is where Ernie spends the majority of his time working (check out my office space over here), mainly because the WiFi is best in our room.

On having an office in your bedroom

I know that many of you can relate to the fact that an office is now permanently part of your room. Where ‘no devices in the bedroom’ was previously a reasonable rule for many of us, the pandemic has now forced us to make our bedrooms an office, church, exercise studio, TV room, school, playroom – all on top of being a sleeping area.

Some tips for working in your room:

  1. Create some sort of a cohesive visual effect. If possible, choose a desk & chair that go with the rest of the decor in your room. A coat of paint can tie things together.
  2. Keep the room tidy. I have found that if the room gets too out of control, there is less quality work & less quality sleep going on. Make sure your ‘bedroom’ section is neat when you have to work & vice versa – pack away the laptop & stacks of paper when you go to bed every night or at the very least over a weekend.
  3. Add a plant or two to the space. The reality of being in your room almost all day & night means that the room might not feel fresh & airy all the time. My solution for this is to add an air-purifying plant or two in the room, air the room by opening the windows & change the linen often. These simple things make your room cleaner, fresher & the overall feeling much calmer.

Having an office inside a bedroom is not ideal, but I’m quite ok with the way our room looks. For now anyway. Haha.

Stay tuned for some changes to our space.

Yolandi ♥
