I didn’t grow up with the tradition of an Advent Calendar, so imagine my delight when I first encountered one at the age of 16 in Germany! As an exchange student, I was living with a German family & the mother (Kerstin) sewed 24 mini stockings on a string especially for me.
And just there, I fell in love with the idea of a custom made Advent Calendar. I can’t sew, so I always have to come up with some other DIY Advent Calendar concept. And this year is no exception. And, voila, my easy colourful hanger & envelope Advent Calendar came about. It is fun & super easy to make & you can choose your colours to tie in with your Christmas theme. Mine has got lots of pink, green, blue & silver to tie in with our Disco & Jingle XMas theme this year! Oliver – who is usually not the keenest on crafts – even got involved! He volunteered & loved every moment. You can thank me later for this activity idea to do with the little people in your life!
This advent calendar is dead easy & you probably don’t need a ‘step-by-step-diy’. But, just in case you are not quite sure, here is how I did it.
The majority of the items that I used are available from a craft store. I got my supplies from Her-Annies in Centurion.
What you need:
24 Mini paper envelopes
24 Mini pegs
Optional: A stencil with nrs
A koki pen or marker in your Christmas colours
Christmas stickers, decorative bits, ribbon & tinsel of your choice
A wire hanger
What to do:
Stencil numbers 1 – 24 on each mini envelope. Now ask the little person in your life to stick as many little Christmas stickers or decory bits onto each mini envelope as they like! Fill each envelope with a sweetie & fold it at the back. Add 5 strings of tinsel, rope or ribbon to your wire hanger.
And that is that. You are done.
I hope you are inspired to make your own advent calendar this year. Don’t wait! 1 December is this weekend already! Hooray.
Thanx for visiting.
