Why is buttercream so dreamy? Maybe because it brings back fond childhood memories? Or because we associate it with magical get-togethers over a cup of tea? It doesn’t actually matter why we love it, the point is that most people I know is rather besotted with buttercream.

And that is exactly why I am so delighted to tell you that on 6, 7 & 8 September the ladies from LionHeart Patisserie Studio, Karmen & Nikki, will be doing their amazing Buttercream workshops in Joburg again. Hooray!

When they had their previous Joburg workshops in May, I was super keen to go but by the time I wanted to book, the tickets were sold out!

But now you (& I!) have an opportunity to attend one of the following workshops right here in the City of Gold at The Good Food Studio, Pick n Pay on Nicol, Cnr Republic & William Nicol in Sandton.

Painted Buttercream Workshop, ‘Thursday, 6 September 2018, 3:30pm9:30pm  (You should ideally have basic cake decorating knowledge for this one)

Textured Buttercream Workshop, Friday, 7 September 2018, 10am – 5pm (Beginner-intermediate level)

Textured Buttercream Workshop, Saturday, 8 September 2018, 10am – 5pm (Beginner-intermediate level)

What is included?

  • 6 – 7 hours of You Time

The workshop will cover the following:

You will learn:

  • The basics about buttercream
  • Cake decorating equipment & tools
  • Cake design & time planning
  • Transporting tips
  • How to achieve a textured buttercream cake
  • How to make a chocolate sail

Getting down to (buttercream) business:

  • Swiss Meringue Buttercream (SMBC) demonstration (we will show you how to make your own at home but will supply frosting to use on the day)
  • Colouring buttercream with gel colours
  • Stack & fill a cake with sponges & frosting provided
  • Frost your cake with SMBC
  • Applying frosting to achieve a textured buttercream look
  • Achieving sharp edges on your cake
  • Making and applying a chocolate sail

What is provided?

  • Cake decorating equipment & tools, cake sponges, frosting, cake decorations (chocolate for your sail) & an apron (these are yours to use for the day but please leave it behind at the end of the class)
  • Snacks & refreshments
