I’m always such a sucker for pampering, so I hope you won’t get too jealous when I tell you about my delightful afternoon of pampering at the Fresh Wellness Spa at the Cellars-Hohenort Hotel in Constantia, Cape Town, last month.

The understated elegance makes the entire property very unique. What made me fall in love with the spa is that treatments are tailored to the needs of each client. Obviously you can choose from specific treatments (menu over here) including facials, hydro theraphy, the rasul chamber, exfoliations, wraps, touch theraphies (aka massage), spa packages, waxes, mani’s & pedi’s, but it is great to know that each client is catered for.

“…We customize [a treatment] to the client’s needs, by asking them [about] the area of focus & then customise our duration of treatment on that specific area,” explains Jean-Mari Ferreira, owner of Fresh Wellness. “[For instance], if clients don’t like a foot massage during the full body massage, we would do a facial acupressure massage or a longer scalp massage in order to render a treatment that they will love. We find that this is one of the great secrets to our success.” I totally agree.

Fresh Wellness also only uses quality products including Orly, Babor, QMS Cosmetics, CND Shellac & TheraVine.

My therapist for the day was Chervon Morgan who started at the spa as a student therapist in 2009. She is now the manager & it is clear why – she’s knowledgeable, professional & one of the best therapists that I’ve ever been to. She is thorough, explains, but also alows time for relaxation.

My afternoon started with touch therapy in the form of a deep Tissue Full Body Massage (which covers only the back of the body) with an arnica based oil. Then followed a muscle recovery rub, which has a combination of stimulating properties & left my skin feeling slightly chilly & singly afterwards.

Hot & cold compresses are new additions to the Fresh Wellness Deep Tissue & Lymphatic massages. The idea behind the compresses are to apply Thermal & Chyro Therapy (by using warm & cold cloths respectively) behind the neck to increase & decrease micro circulation to the head. I loved these compresses. Mari adds: “This is specifically effective for people suffering from tention headaches & migranes as the rush of blood flow to the most strained area of the body brings about intense relief to muscle spasm & overall tention.”

Next, I had a !QMS Facial Deep Cleanse facial (of 45min) with a glycolic exfoliator. The collagen mask left my 35 year old skin feeling silky silky smooth afterwards – something that I haven’t felt in ages. A little warning: this mask is not for those who suffer from claustrophobia though, as it covers your eyes. (See picture below)

I was delighted to learn that hand & foot massages are standard in every Fresh Facial, while the mask or the exfoliator stay on depending on the time allowed for the treatment.

What to expect… Excellent skilled staff in a classy, but unpretentious setting.

This salon is for you, if you… Love to be pampered & need TLC for specific concerns.

What I didn’t enjoy… Honestly, everything was lovely. The only thing that might need to be improved is the signage to the spa. On the day of my treatment, there were many cars parked (making the sign less visible) so I took a bit of a detour to find the spa.

This spa is for those who… Are not cash strapped. This is a five-star hotel after all. A large percentage of the clientele are international visitors.

The final verdict: Fresh Wellness is a professional spa in a really tranquil environment. The customised treatments are highly recommended.

After my delightful treatments at the Fresh Wellness Spa, my friend Christelle joined me for the Low Carb High Tea. Read more about it over here.
