Lately I have been wearing a soak-off gel overlay on my nails (Gelish & Polish Pro) more often than polish. Purely because settling into a new home is h.a.r.d on nails & nail polish does not stand much of a chance when dipped into water & used as tools for packing, unpacking & organising. But I’ve missed changing my nail colour often, so I’m going to start alternating between overlays & nail polishes going forward.
I have been trying some lovely mani products lately & these are my picks of the moment.
1.After being really ill back in April and May, plus moving house my nails were completely ruined. They were splitting and breaking, so a local beauty guru recommended the Trind Nail Repair (R200, Clicks) to me & voila: within a few weeks my nails were as strong & healthy as can be again. Thumbs up!
2.My nail colour of the week is Morgan Taylor Hocus Pocus (R123 from here or from Sorbet salons nationwide). I love this colour. Unusual & fun.
3. What is a mani without a proper hand lotion? Happy Days by Crisnail (R205 for 200ml) ticks all the right boxes. This hand & body milk has an awesome label, easy to use pump bottle, excuisite smell & feels velvery on the hands (without being too greasy)! I am using NO 35 at the moment – it is youthful & fun with tones of red fruits & vanilla! Also available in NO 69 – with spice, wood & citrus; NO 21 is the romantic with rose, wild strawberries, a hint of chocolate & caramel; & No 80 – with the sweetest smell of peach, wild notes of strawberries & cranberries……
4. CND VINYLUX Weekly Top Coat (R198, 15ml) is part of the 2-step polish system. This product contains photo initiators that causes a reaction to natural light which makes the product harder & tougher over time. So clever. The colours & the top coat dries in 8 minutes, will not stain or yellow nails & is easily removed in the salon or at home.
5. These Elegant Touch Emery Boards (R29.95 for a multi-pack, only from Dis-Chem) is a must-have in your drawer at your desk, in your handbag & in your car. You never know when you might need to fix a ruined finger nail.
Go on: paint those nails! You know you want to! It’s an instant picker-upper.
