On a recent trip away, a dear wise friend said that these days (& holidays specific) are the childhood memories of our children. I didn’t think too much of it at the time, but then I listened to “Good Old Days” (the song by Macklemore featuring Kesha) …

I wish somebody would have told me babe

Someday, these will be the good old days

All the love you won’t forget

And all these reckless nights you won’t regret

Someday soon, your whole life’s gonna change

You’ll miss the magic of these good old days…

Never thought we’d get old, maybe we’re still young

Maybe we always look back & think it was better than it was

Maybe these are the moments

Maybe I’ve been missing what it’s about

Been scared of the future, thinking about the past

While missing out on now

We’ve come so far, I guess I’m proud

And I ain’t worried about the wrinkles around my smile

I’ve got some scars, I’ve been around

I’ve felt some pain, I’ve seen some things, but I’m here now

Those good old days

We ended up having a similar conversation with the same friends about ‘the good old days’ over the weekend.  And it is so true. Someday these will be the good old days. There is no need to wish these days away. Or to try & recreate the good old days that you remember. Instead, we should be doing things, adding new traditions & magic in our lives right NOW.

In our lives, the memories of the ‘good old days’ will hopefully be filled with the awesome recollection of Christmas in July, afternoon walks, baking pancakes or pancake bread (French toast with cinnamon sugar), decorating Gingerbread houses for Christmas, special holidays with friends. Visits to the homes of oumas & oupas.

So, what are you doing to create memories of the good old days? I’d love to hear.

Yolandi ♥
