**This competition is now closed. Congratulations to the winner, Meggy Brink!**

On Mother’s Day, I had some time to myself to go SOLO shopping. Not groceries. Not the usual pharmacy run. Shoes, accessories, dresses – all for me! And I loved every minute. I spent four hours (way too little if you ask me) trawling the shops for the perfect additions to my winter wardrobe.

When I got home I realized that I can’t simply add my new purchases to my wardrobe. And so I had the perfect opportunity to get rid of items that have not been worn for some time & the ones that have served too many years already.

And it made me think again about clothes (which I love), shopping (which I love) & the impact of clothes & fashion on the environment. Simply Google “Fashion & the environment” & you will get almost 14 million results.

But then I was reminded of the Vintage With Love Charity Sale that is coming to Joburg soon. It is awesome for so many reasons:

  • You can donate your old (gently worn) items
  • You get to shop for gorgeous garments
  • There is no guilt because you did not contribute to the pollution caused by another new fast fashion garment
  • You get to invest into the lives of learners because all proceeds from The Vintage With Love Sale go to charities that focus on literacy

WHEN: 1, 2 & 3 June 2018

WHAT TIME: 1 June 5pm-8pm, 2 June 10am-4pm, 3 June 10am to 1pm

Founder & organiser, Leigh Ord explains: “As a former teacher it is important to me that we do something to help underprivileged children achieve effective literacy.

“Without foundation phase literacy, learners will always struggle with further studies. The organisations that we support with the funds from Vintage with Love are extremely effective in achieving foundation phase literacy amongst hundreds of Gauteng youngsters, as well as helping would-be teachers achieve their career goals.”

“Vintage with love is very much a fashion AND lifestyle statement,” says magazine editor & Vintage With Love co-founder, Jacquie Myburgh Chemaly. She adds that the concept of vintage fashion has changed & that shoppers at Vintage with Love will find rails of gently worn modern fashion – at brilliant prices. “Vintage fashion is not about old clothes. It’s about those items that you bought & never wore or the ones that are still in excellent condition but you no longer want. What you no longer love, will be someone else’s treasure. And that, in turn, will be an underprivileged child’s future secured.”
