A visually appealing space is like food for my soul. There is something about a uniquely designed room that just appeals to me. And yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit Design Joburg featuring Rooms On View. It is a feast for the senses for anyone in need of aesthetic inspiration.

I’m about to take you on an #Instawalk of the show & have chosen some of my favourite parts of #designjoburg through Instagram posts. Please let me know if ysour picture is here & you are not happy for it to be featured, then I will happily remove it.

TEAM WORK, COLLABORATION

The team followed a unique & pioneering approach of creating collaborative roomsets & incorporating Rooms on View into the Design Joburg. Under the direction of leading architects & designers, each stand showcases the latest trends with creativity & originality at their core. True design magic happens here as the best-of-the-best come together.

The creative team behind Design Joburg is Andrea Kleinloog & Megan Hesse, co-owners of Anatomy Design & HK Studio explain: “Collaboration is an integral part of Design Joburg & we’re underscoring this with curated feature exhibits that will bring together leading architects & interior designers with top drawer brands, local artisans & suppliers.”

Their vision with the show was to create an experience, rather than an exhibition. A space where people will ‘feel it’.

It is all about reminding people about the beauty & joy of life. Such a welcome concept in these crazy times that we live in, right? Andrea is very vocal about coming to a halt & remembering why you do the things you love: “Don’t loose the joy. Don’t just do [your job] for the sake of getting it done.” Their wish is that people will walk through Design Joburg & feel inspired again.

And what will any gorgeous room be without some bubbly (or a bubbly popsicle if you prefer), which makes ‘Haute Cabriere Home of Pierre Jourdan’ SA’s premier Cap Classique & wine brand, the perfect Associate Sponsor of the inaugural show.

HIGHLIGHTS AT DESIGN JOBURG:

David Krynauw: I will never ever grow tired of his work & the stand is in itself a magnificent artwork. Incidentally: am so in love with his Joburg Stoel 6 & Joburg Stoel 9.

The Weylandts RAW REFINED stand is truly amazing. The concept of “Nature vs man-made” is unique & inspiring.

#TheSampleLibrary with JVR Architects welcomes you with the amazing scent of cedar. The stand is a combination of gorgeous custom-designed pieces & hand cut pieces of solid oak forest flooring.

A unique aesthetic awaits you at The Hertex Roomset in collaboration with Donald Nxumalo.  The inspiration? Mali. With unique textures, patters & colours of sand dunes. I am also in love with the gorgeous screens used as ‘walls’.

The only sad part about Design Joburg is that all these gorgeous rooms will be gone by tomorrow night, so book your tickets (priced: R80 – R100) over here. The show is open today from 10am – 6pm & tomorrow (Sunday, 14 May 2017) from 10am – 5pm at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

One last thing: the traffic & parking around the convention centre can really be a pain, so my advise is to get an UBER – that way you can also sip on as many glasses of bubbly as you please!
